CAVE CREEK, AZ (BRAIN)—Subtitled “Races for Open Spaces,” the third annual Cave Creek Bicycle Festival will be held Nov. 11-13 to raise funds for desert preservation.
Registration is open for all festival events, which include a 20-mile mountain bike race/ride beginning and ending in Cave Creek, Arizona’s Frontier Town; 30- and 50-mile Bello Fondo road rides; the Kids’ Kriterium with age groups for young cyclists 4 to 14 years old, plus a kick-bike group; and an alley cat race.
The mix of events is aimed at appealing to the broadest cycling audience possible, said Rick Bucher, the festival’s vendor and sponsor coordinator. “We’re looking to put on an event that people will not only want to come back and do again, but they’ll want to bring their friends and families too.”
In addition to the rides and races, there will also be an expo area featuring vendors and nonprofit groups, and Trek will be on hand demoing mountain and road bikes.
Nearly 325 cyclists attended last year’s festival, and this year’s edition is on track to exceed 450 participants, Bucher said.
Festival proceeds will go to FORCE (Friends of Recreation, Conservation and the Environment), a joint project of the Desert Foothills Land Trust and the town of Cave Creek to acquire 4,000 acres of Sonoran desert north of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
