SAN CLEMENTE, CA (BRAIN)—SRAM public relations manager Morgan Meredith has left the parts giant to become publisher of Bike and Paved magazines. He starts Wednesday, Nov. 9.
Meredith fills the void left by Bike veteran Derek DeJonge, who exited in late August as publisher of the mountain bike title and the 2-year-old Paved, which is aimed at capturing the culture behind road cycling. DeJonge had been with Bike for more than a decade.
The move is a homecoming of sorts for Meredith, who was assistant photo editor at Bike and ski magazine Powder from 2002 to 2010. “I pretty much cut my teeth there,” he said.
Meredith transitioned from that role to SRAM, where he served as public relations and media manager for SRAM MTB for a year and a half, working with mountain bike media from all over the world.
“I feel like there’s so much strength right now in quality-driven brands, and Bike and Paved are definitely cut from that cloth. I’m really looking forward to getting back into it. I like the idea of championing the Bike and Paved brands to the advertisers of the world. It’s a challenging time for publishing, but it’s also an exciting time,” he said.
Meredith takes over as Paved moves from a quarterly publishing schedule to coming out five times a year in 2012, when it will also be offered as a subscription title rather than being sold exclusively on newsstands.
Bike and Paved are owned by Source Interlink’s GrindMedia, which also publishes action-sports titles Surfer, Dirt Rider, Snowboarder, Skateboarder and Surfing. Officials at GrindMedia could not be reached for comment Friday.
