BLOOMINGTON, MN (BRAIN)—QBP today begins providing will-call order service for bike dealers located near its temporary facility in Clearfield, Utah.
Customers will be able to place orders for same day pickup directly from the warehouse, according to a press release. For local dealers, this feature will augment the one-day shipping service currently available to them.
“From the beginning, our goal has been to heighten the level of service excellence for our western customers,” said Steve Flagg, president of QBP. “The performance of the Utah operation has exceeded our expectations and will let us set the bar higher by providing additional services in the months to come.”
Although the company’s move to a new state-of-the-art facility in Ogden is still six months away, bike dealers are already recognizing the value of the regional distribution center for their businesses.
“We place our orders as late as 5 p.m. and they still show up the next day,” said Mike Taylor, owner of Taylor’s Bike Shop in Provo, Utah. “Now they are telling us they are
putting together same-day delivery. Next-day service is amazing but same day will take me a while to get used to.”
The new 85,000-square-foot facility is currently under construction on an eight-acre site in Ogden. When it is completed in December 2010, QBP will carry approximately 18,000 SKUs, more than double the number of items currently available from its Clearfield distribution center. Built to LEED Gold standards, the new building will include a
rooftop solar panel array capable of generating 39.5 kilowatts of energy as well as geothermal heating and cooling.
“We are very excited about opening the new distribution center later this year,” Flagg said. “Our ability to rapidly ship a wide variety of products to our western customers will be dramatically expanded. We see this as a great step forward for our customers, our business and the entire industry.”
