Bike Mag Nominated for Five Maggies

Published March 24, 2010

SAN CLEMENTE, CA (BRAIN)—The Western Publishing Association (WPA) announced its 2010 Maggie finalists last week, nominating Bike magazine in five categories.

Among the categories for which Bike was nominated are best cover design for its March 2009 “Trails Issue,” best overall publication design for the September/October 2009 issue dedicated to mountain biking’s most influential women, and the special interest category for the July 2009 “All-American” issue.

“As a staff, we at Bike have the unique ability to reinvent ourselves visually and editorially, while remaining familiar and true to our readers,” said Shaun Bernadou, Bike’s senior art director. “To be nominated again this year, especially across so many categories, is an honor.”

The magazine was also selected as having one of the best series of editorial photographs for its December 2009 “Enter the Thaw” feature story on Iceland, and, for the second year running, it was nominated in the special theme issue category, this time for the June 2009 “D.I.Y.” issue.

Winners will be announced at the 59th Annual Maggie Awards Banquet on Friday evening, May 7, in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Gateway Hotel at the Los Angeles International Airport. The ceremony will name the “Best in the West” from hundreds of finalists, including heavyweights such as Shape, Coast, 944 and Flaunt.

“We really dug deep to make last year’s volume one of the most compelling and well-rounded in Bike’s history,” said Brice Minnigh, Bike’s managing editor. “We were already proud of last year’s accomplishments, but getting this industry recognition is an added reward.”
