SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (BRAIN) — Santa Cruz lifted its embargo today on its new Tallboy 29er. The Tallboy 3 expands travel by 10 millimeters. It’s also longer, lower and slacker to reflect modern trail geometry.
The bike comes as a 29er but could be turned into a 27.5-plus bike with the flip of a chip on the frame to adjust for the different wheel size.
The standard Tallboy 3 will come configured as a 29er, with 120-millimeter fork and the chip in the low position. Riders who want to convert it to 27.5-plus will need to replace the fork with a 130-millimeter and flip the chip to the high position.
The Tallboy 29er will come in two premium build kits: XX1 ($7,799) and X01 ($6,499), both with the option of Enve M60 HV wheels upgrade for $2,000. The 27-plus model ($6,499) will come in just an X01 build. The Tallboy is offered in yellow and green graphics or matte gray with orange graphics.
The bike, which is offered in small through XXL sizes, features internal cable routing for derailleurs and the dropper, 73-millimeter threaded BB, downtube protector, 148 front and 110 rear hub spacing, removable front derailleur mount, IS headset and size-specific Reverb seatposts.
Santa Cruz is offering a Julianna version of the Tallboy with the Joplin, offered in one color and two builds and in 27.5-plus and 29er versions. The Joplin has suspension tuned for lighter riders, lower standover height, and a women’s saddle. Its parts are also uniquely spec’d to fit women.
The Joplin is offered in small, medium and large.
