NEW YORK —Brooklyn Bicycle Co. has expanded its lineup with the introduction of two hybrid models, the recreational bike brand's first hybrids — the Roebling and Lorimer. Brooklyn's lineup now covers 12 models.
Both of the $499 hybrids (named after Brooklyn thoroughfares, like all of the brand's bikes) have a lightweight, double-butted 4130 chromoly main frame; Shimano Acera 24-speed drivetrain; braze-ons for front and rear fenders, front and rear racks, and water bottle; Tektro linear-pull brakes with Shimano levers; double-walled alloy rims; and puncture-resistant tires. But they differ in that the Lorimer's geometry is designed for women.
"While there's certainly an abundance of hybrid bikes available on the market, the vast majority are aluminum. We see steel as a more comfortable, more durable alternative given its unique ability to flex," said Brooklyn Bicycle Co. president Ryan Zagata. "We were at first reluctant given the saturation of the hybrid category, but upon speaking with dealers, we realized the demand for a longer-lasting and more city-friendly steel hybrid was going largely unfulfilled."
