KORTRIJK, Belgium (BRAIN) Friday March 30 2012 10:06 AM MT—Trek Bicycle on Friday released details of its new Domane road bike, which members of the RadioShack-Nissan team have been racing on for several weeks.
The bike appears intended to go head-to-head in the marketplace (and on the race course) with bikes such as the Specialized Roubaix and the Cervelo R3 and RS.
The Domane was designed to increase comfort on rough road race course. In a design somewhat reminiscent of Volagi's, Trek isolates the seatstays from the seattube. Unlike the Volagi, where the seatstays bypass the seattube altogether and attach to the toptube, the Domane has a "decoupler" bearing between the stays and the seatcluster. The end result is that vibrations passing up the stays are not transmitted up to the saddle, Trek said. Trek claimed the system "creates vertical compliance that is twice that of the nearest competition, without taking an ounce of power from the rider."
“When you work with Trek and the engineers it’s a combination that lets you examine every detail and the details that it takes to win the races that this bike is made for are bigger than any other,” said Fabian Cancellara (RadioShack-Nissan), who won the dirt-road Strade Bianchi classic on the new frame last month. In recent years, Cancellara has raced the spring classics aboard various Cervelo and Specialized bikes as his team sponsors have changed.
Trek said the Domane is available now at Trek retailers worldwide.
