FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, Germany (BRAIN) — The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry announced at Eurobike this week that new wheel testing procedures have been finalized and will be presented to the Union Cyclist Internationale (UCI) Equipment Commission in October.
If the UCI approves the new test procedure, a self-certification test would be take effect January 2016, saving the industry the costs of shipping and testing in Belgium, the WFSGI stated at it biannual bicycle meetings here, which attracted a record 100-plus industry representatives.
Additionally, WFSGI’s saddle committee discussed modification of saddle regulations and said it will prepare a first proposal to present to the UCI in October..
With the first test road races using disc brakes recently completed, WFSGI reported positive feedback from riders and stated that “the implementation of disc brake was a valid request and another step forward. It is the right direction from the industry to supply more stability in brake power and more safety for the riders.”
A new working group on the UCI 3:1 aerodynamics ratio as well as the 6.8-kilogram weight limitation also met for the first time at Eurobike, discussing possible changes to the regulations, WFSGI stated.
Addressing the threat of counterfeit bicycle products, the WFSGI has decided to establish a working group that will develop an “authenticity protection system.” Jeroen Snijders Blok, WFSGI Bicycle Committee chairman and COO of the Accell Group, stated: “The problem with counterfeit products is a growing concern for the entire bicycle industry. It is about time that the industry leaders put their forces together, under the umbrella of the WFSGI, and work on a collective solution.”
