LUCCA, Italy (BRAIN) — Former world champion Mario Cipollini was hospitalized after being hit by a car while training near his home here, the U.S. distributor of his bike brand, Cipollini USA, announced Friday.
According to Cipollini USA, the sprinter faces surgery after suffering injuries to his knee and the quadriceps tendon.
The company said it still expects Cipollini to present the brand's new time trial bike at Eurobike and Interbike in the coming weeks. Cipollini was set to lead an invitation-only early morning bike ride at Interbike in Las Vegas next month.
