MIAMI (BRAIN) — Randy Ross, the former CEO of Ross Bicycles and a member of one of the first families of the U.S. bicycle industry, died suddenly on Christmas day while celebrating the holiday with family. He was 67.
The Ross bicycle brand dates to around 1940; it was founded by Albert Ross, Randy's grandfather. In the 1980s when Randy led the brand it was a pioneer in the nascent mountain bike market and sponsored the first professional mountain bike race team, called the Ross Indians. Ross also sponsored some events that helped the sport develop in the 1980s and its bikes were some of the first mass-produced mountain bikes available.
Randy also loved harness racing and first got involved with the sport as an owner in 1979, according to a report by HarnessLink.com.
Randy leaves behind his son Shaun, daughters Samantha and Cheyenne, sister Candy, daughter-in-law Carly, grandsons Adam and Oliver, nephews EJ and Bobby, extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Sherwood and Barbara Ross and his ex-wife Paula.
