Outside launches Outside+ membership program

Published May 18, 2021
Annual membership includes magazine subscriptions, free books, event discounts, GAIA GPS membership, and more.

BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — Outside — the parent company of BRAIN and dozens of other active lifestyle and outdoor sports media titles and brands — has relaunched its membership program under a new name: Outside+. The program includes a variety of new features and perks from our growing family of media brands, which include VeloNews, Peloton, Beta, Outside, Triathlete, and more.

Outside+ replaces the Active Pass membership launched last year by Pocket Outdoor Media, which has been renamed Outside. Current Active Pass members will be rolled into the program with more perks.

Bicycle Retailer & Industry News' subscription model remains the same: a print subscription is free to qualified industry members; BRAIN's digital content including this website, newsletters, and other content is free.

But we know our readers are interested in many of the other titles and brands in the Outside portfolio, so here's a rundown of how the new program works:

Users can join Outside+ through the magazine title of their choice for $49 a year, or choose a $99 membership that includes two print magazine subscriptions along with other benefits.

With the $49 subscription, readers choose a print subscription from BackpackerBetaClean EatingClimbingOutsideOxygenSkiTrail RunnerTriathleteVeloNewsWomen’s Running, or Yoga Journal. They also get personalized, ad-free content on all Outside websites; exclusive articles, podcasts, videos and other content; and discounts on gear and apparel.

With the $99 membership, readers get the features in the $49 subscription, plus a print subscription to Outside magazine and:

  • Two books from VeloPress;
  • Access to virtual health and fitness courses;
  • Access to the Warren Miller film archive
  • Early event access and event discounts;
  • Training plans from Today's Plan;
  • Professional race photo packs from FinisherPix;
  • Premium membership to the Gaia GPS app;
  • Online yoga courses from Yoga Journal;
  • Skiing and backpacking video tutorials;
  • Meal plans and recipes from Clean Eating and Better Nutrition;
  • Race registration discounts from AthleteReg (coming soon); and
  • Access to premium OutsideTV video (coming soon).

Some member benefits are specific to the magazine titles chosen. For example, VeloNews Outside+ members get access and discounts to Roll Massif cycling events, plus a new free event — either June 6’s Elephant Rock event in Castle Rock, Colorado, or the Enchanted Circle sportive in Red River, New Mexico on Aug. 28. Members get a 25% registration discount for any other Roll Massif event.
