Philadelphia, PA July 31, 2024 — BikeCo, the exclusive distributor of Fuji Bicycles in North America, is excited to partner with OneDad's Mission to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Jeff Bekos, founder of One Dad's Mission, is embarking on a cross-country bike ride, aboard a Fuji Kasane bike, which will take him 4600 miles from the coast of California to Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Along the way Jeff will be stopping at 26 Ronald McDonald Houses with the goal of raising $5 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Jeff's connection to Ronald McDonald House Charities started on July 5, 2013 at 8.15am when his 13-year-old daughter Hailey suddenly stopped talking. Hailey was rushed to Doylestown Hospital where she had her first seizure. She was then transferred to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for further observation. Four days later she stopped breathing! The following week she fell into a coma that lasted four months. Over the next four months Hailey's brain was shutting down and she suffered thousands of hours of seizures, her heart stopped 10 times and she was facing death.
Doctors were finally able to diagnose that Hailey had Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis and began to aggressively treat the condition. Doctors at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia had only seen25 cases of this, and they did not know if Hailey would survive. During this time Jeff lost his job and they began to receive medical bills with a total of $2.4 million. Fortunately, there is a Ronald McDonald House next to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia and that became their home for the next 254 days as Hailey battled for her life. At the Ronald McDonald House Jeff and his wife had a private room, warm meals, and a comfortable bed so they could stay close to their daughter as she recovered.
Hailey made a full recovery and now Jeff wants to give back to the organization that provided him with so much during this challenging time. This is why Jeff is on One Dad's Mission.
