PeopleForBikes, the U.S. bicycle industry’s trade association, is proud to announce the launch of an innovative new dashboard on the used bicycle market. The tool provides valuable data from a significant market segment and allows industry members to better track sales trends and understand consumer behavior.
"The used bicycle market is an often-overlooked aspect of our industry's data landscape," said Jenn Dice, president and CEO of PeopleForBikes. "Our new dashboard offers real-time insights into used bike listing and sales data, offering a more holistic view of what’s happening across the entire bicycle market. This empowers industry leaders to make more informed decisions, fostering growth and innovation."
The used bicycle market plays a pivotal role in overall sales trends. Until now, accurately measuring this dynamic market proved to be challenging. The introduction of this interactive dashboard, available exclusively to PeopleForBikes Coalition members, opens access to reliable data sourced from popular online, peer-to-peer marketplaces including eBay, Facebook, Craigslist, and Mercari.
The dashboard measures the used bicycle market by tracking the volume of new listings per month, providing a clear indication of consumer demand and intention. This real-time data can help the industry capitalize on emerging opportunities.
Industry members can learn more about the dashboard during an informative webinar on Thursday, May 23, at 11 a.m. MT. Peter Woolery, founder of Bicycle Market Research and manager of the project, will demonstrate the functionality of the dashboard and illustrate how the data can be analyzed on a macro and micro level to cater to specific business needs.
The dashboard monitors a wide range of product categories, allowing for a granular analysis of market trends. Refined subcategories such as different kids' bike sizes also allow users to delve deeper into specific market segments.
Key metrics reported on the dashboard include:Value of sales
● Value of listings
● Number of bikes sold
● Number of bikes listed
● Average selling price
● Average listing price
"The dashboard represents a substantial step forward in our effort to understand the entire U.S. bicycle market,” said Jennifer Boldry, PeopleForBikes’ chief research advisor and Research and Statistics Subcommittee lead. “The industry has never had a view of the used market before."
