Monongalia County Schools Celebrate New Project Bike Tech Classroom with Ribbon Cutting in Morgantown

Morgantown, WV (September 28, 2022) – University High School in Morgantown, West Virginia, is the newest school to add the Bike Tech in School program to its curriculum. Monongalia County School District hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 27, to celebrate the completion of the Bike Tech In School classroom.

"Monongalia County Schools, in conjunction with West Virginia University's Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative, is thrilled to open the first and only Project Bike Tech classroom in the State of West Virginia. This program is a reflection of the abundance of exciting new opportunities our innovative school district provides for students in preparation for future careers and healthy lifestyles." Dr. Eddie Campbell, Superintendent of Monongalia County Schools.

Project Bike Tech, the first high school bicycle education program of its kind, developed Bike Tech in School as a college-and-career-ready class that teaches students the necessary skills to work as professional bicycle mechanics and provides a steppingstone to a multitude of cycling-industry careers. Since its inception in California in 2007, Bike Tech in School is now in over 30 high schools in 12 states.

The University High School ribbon cutting was the third of three events held on Tuesday to herald the growth of cycle sports in Morgantown. West Virginia University's Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony as well to announce the first phase of Morgantown's new bike trail system, and the Mylan Park Foundation hosted a groundbreaking celebration for the new multi-million-dollar Action Sports and Bike Park Complex at Mylan Park.

Rad Power Bikes, the world's largest e-bike brand in North America, sponsored the new Bike Tech in School classroom with a $60,000 donation, continuing the expansion of a partnership between Project Bike Tech and Rad Power Bikes that began last year.
