Today, Lyft is furthering its commitment to those serving our communities against COVID-19 with a $1 million commitment from Citi and Mastercard to provide more critical workers with free Citi Bike access.
Since late March, Lyft has been providing first-responders, health care, and transit workers with a free month of Citi Bike membership through its Critical Workforce Membership Program. We're excited to share that since the recent program launch, more than 5,500 New Yorkers have already joined and benefited from this transportation option that allows for commuting while social-distancing.
The announcement was shared by Mayor de Blasio during his daily COVID briefing this morning.
- Lyft is extending these free memberships to currently-enrolled and new frontline heroes for an entire year, and extending enrollment deadline to May 31.
- Lyft is expanding the program to also include essential City of New York employees and New Yorkers who work at food banks and other food support non-profits.
- Lyft will be adding stations to the network in the Bronx - for the first time - and Upper Manhattan, with more than 100 new stations, including stations serving essential workers outside Harlem Hospital and Lincoln Hospital.
This program is part of LyftUp, Lyft's comprehensive effort to expand transportation access to those who need it most. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Lyft has activated more than 500 LyftUp partners across the country to provide free rides and delivery to those with essential transportation needs. Now thanks to Citi and Mastercard, Lyft will be able to serve even more frontline workers with Citi Bike access during this critical time.
