PITTSBURGH (BRAIN) — Dick’s Sporting Goods will furlough “a significant number” of employees beginning April 12, the company said in a statement to investors.
Those furloughed, including employees at Golf Galaxy and Field & Stream, will continue to be paid through April 11 and benefits for those who have them will continue throughout the furlough. The furlough's duration was not announced.
Dick’s closed all of its stores, including Golf Galaxy and Field & Stream, on March 19 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Online and mobile app ordering will continue, and Dick's and Golf Galaxy will offer "curbside contactless pickup service." This pickup option is available between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. seven days a week.
Until reopening, Dick’s will operate with a scaled-down workforce inside stores, distribution centers, and the corporate headquarters, according to the statement, which also said executives will work at “reduced wages.”
“Our teammates are the lifeblood of our company — an amazing group of dedicated and passionate people — which makes this an agonizing decision, and one we had hoped we would never have to make,” the statement read.
Dick’s announcement came a day after REI Co-op said Monday night it will furlough a majority of its employees for 90 days.
