CORTE MADERA, CA (BRAIN)—Bay Area retailer City Cycle rang in the new year by upgrading from its 1,200-square-foot Marin County home in San Anselmo to an expansive 9,000-square-foot space five miles southeast in Corte Madera.
The new location, in a former Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership along the well-traveled Paradise Loop cycling route, opened Monday. It has allowed City Cycle to quadruple its number of bikes on display and create a separate fit studio instead of fitting customers on a trainer in the middle of the much smaller San Anselmo sales floor. A new women’s section with lavender walls is about the same size as City Cycle's entire previous location.
“Infrastructurally, there’s a lot of correlation between a motorcycle dealership and a bike shop. We found a gem,” said Mitch Trux, who does marketing and community outreach for City Cycle.
An upstairs space currently serves as storage, but the plan is to put a number of CompuTrainers on the upper level for training classes. “It’s something the community has wanted,” Trux said.
The shop has switched from Scott to Trek as its primary bike line, providing continuity with City Cycle's San Francisco location, also a Trek dealer. Trek provided guidance for the layout of the store, which also carries Cervélo, Colnago, Seven Cycles and Ibis.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to reposition our business in Marin County,” Trux said of the move.
