BOULDER, Colo. (BRAIN) — The PeopleForBikes Coalition board of directors held their biannual meeting here on Wednesday and welcomed two new members while approving seven new recipients of the organization's Community Grant program.
The two new members are Nick Hage of Cycling Sports Group and An Le of Giant. They join the existing 15-member board, whose members include: Pat Cunnane, Advanced Sports; Jessica Klodnicki, Vista Outdoor; Michael Mercuri, SRAM; Steve Flagg, Quality Bicycle Products; John Burke, Trek; Jeff Frehner, Saris Cycling Group; Todd Grant, National Bicycle Dealers Association; Zack Grice, Rodale Press; Pat Hus, Interbike; Chris Kegel, Wheel & Sprocket; Patrick Seidler, WTB; Mike Sinyard, Specialized; Bill Smith, Huffy; Chris Speyer, Accell North America; and Yutaka Taniyama, Shimano American Corporation.
The board also reviewed the Coalition's 2016 work on e-bikes, grassroots support, partnerships and marketing campaigns. The new PlacesForBikes and Big Jump programs, which are administered by the sister PeopleForBikes Foundation, were also summarized.
The seven Community Grants are the final awards of 2016, a year in which PeopleForBikes distributed more than $500,000 to non-profits, community bike programs and national advocacy organizations. The program is funded through the Employee Pro Purchase program, which collects donations from individuals who work in the industry and take advantage of pro-pricing on bike equipment. Fuji, Giant, Shimano, SRAM and Trek currently participate in the program.
The grants were rewarded as follows:
- Let's All Bike: $1,860, Nogales, Arizona.
- Bike-Friendly Valdez: $5,000, Valdez, Alaska
- New Haven Bike Month 2017: Open Streets: $6,000, New Haven, Connecticut.
- Tulsa Hub: Facility Equity Initiative: $6,290, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
- Bike Racks for Rhode Island: $10,000, Providence, Rhode Island.
- Rock Island Greenway – Phase 2: $10,000, Ruston, Louisiana.
- South Washington Avenue Bridge: $10,000, Iola, Kansas.
