HAVERHILL, Mass. (BRAIN) — Mavic has worked with six custom builders to produce special bikes commemeorating the French company's 125th anniversary.
The builders — Ritte, Seven, Argonaut, Lynskey, Independent Fabrication, and Mosaic — were asked to make a frame that was "a representation of the builder's relationship with Mavic both professionally and personally," Mavic said.
"We wanted to find a way to mark this special occasion for Mavic here on our side of the pond," said Mavic's marketing director, Chad Moore. "Each of these builders and designers was inspired to interpret our brand story in a different way, and we encouraged that diversity."
The bikes were released on July 10 at Mavic's "La Maison Jaune," the recently opened brand communications center and Service Course in Newbury Park, California.
Many of the builders and designers responsible for the custom bikes, including Aaron Baracheck from Mosaic, Ben Farver from Argonaut, Mark Lynskey of Lynskey Performance Designs, and Spencer Canon from Ritte, joined the unveiling.
Cannon said, "I used Mavic's iconic yellow in our traditional Ritte color blocking with our more-current '8-Bit' design language of multicolored squares. The red squares are Mavic's official accent color and the gray-blue squares are both our accent color and the color from the Mavic disc on Greg LeMond's Tour-winning Bottecchia."
"I also loved the vertical Mavic fork decals on those 80's bikes, so I painted them on the fork blades for nostalgia's sake."
Seven, Independent Fabrication, and Lynskey are each offering limited quantities of the anniversary bikes for public sale. Interest in the Lynskey design has resulted in production of 20 frames, with up to 30 more available. Seven and Independent Fabrications will paint frames to order, based on demand.
The Ritte will be auctioned this fall through eBay gear store The Pros Closet and proceeds will benefit World Bicycle Relief. The Seven will also be auctioned this fall through The Pros Closet, with proceeds to benefit The Davis Phinney Foundation.
