MONTEREY, Calif. (BRAIN) – Retailers and industry professionals gathered Tuesday night for the start of this year's IBD Summit in its new venue at the Museum of Monterey. With content strategically designed to help retailers address the challenges of doing business in today's market, the summit features two full days of educational seminars, networking opportunities and group rides along the scenic Pacific coast.
Following a cocktail reception, mountaineering guide, entrepreneur and leadership expert Chris Warner captivated the audience with his presentation, hosted by Specialized, "Building Better Leaders: From K2 to Covert Ops and Corporate America."
Through stories of success and failure climbing the world's tallest mountains, Warner examined the importance of transforming behaviors to build a strong team and drive results. Warner also shared strategies for meeting the psychological needs that members expect from a team and how to create the structure to drive desirable behavior. A casual dinner and drinks hosted by QBP rounded out the evening.
Around 35 retailers are in Monterey for the IBD Summit. Exhibiting sponsors including Specialized, Easton-Bell Sports, Club Ride, Raleigh and others will be set up in the expo area, and a number of non-exhibiting sponsors including Leisure Trends, Thule, the NBDA, PeopleForBikes and QBP are also attending the summit.
Over the next two days, 10 speakers will cover topics ranging from selling to women and crafting an engaging brand story to managing new model year transitions. PeopleForBikes will also host a dinner for Bicycle Leadership Conference and IBD Summit attendees at the Monterey Aquarium on Wednesday evening.
