Storm-delayed 'cross race is on, again

Published December 6, 2012

EAST MEADOW, NY (BRAIN) — Registrants for two cyclocross races that were canceled due to post-tropical storm Sandy will finally get a chance to pin on numbers this weekend.

The Staten Cross race was originally scheduled for the weekend after Sandy on Staten Island. Organizers canceled that event but told registrants that their entries would be honored at the following weekend's Supercross Cup race in East Meadow, Long Island. However, FEMA took over the venue for that race, forcing its cancellation as well.

Now the Supercross has been rescheduled for this weekend at the same venue, East Meadow's Eisenhower Park. The race is sited in a different portion of the park than orignally planned but organizers said the resulting course should be equally interesting: open, hilly, fast and even better for spectating.

Sponsors include Brooklyn Brewery, Hammer Nutrition, Kreb Cycle, NYC Velo, Ride Brooklyn and Tate's Bake Shop. Those who need to clean up post-race can get a facility pass for warm showers and changing rooms at the park's aquatic center for $10.
