Florida dealers association progressing on trail system

TAMPA, FL (BRAIN) Jan 23, 09:57 MT South West Florida Bicycle United Dealers, the Tampa Bay alliance of 11 retail bicycle stores, has scored two victories in its attempt to establish a regional paved trail system area in the Tampa area.

SWFBUD has proposed building the BAM (Bicycle Area Mobility) Network, a system of three regional trails that would lead bicyclists to downtown Tampa from the Hillsborough County suburbs.

SWFBUD recruited local state representatives Janet Cruz, a Democrat, and Shawn Harrison, a Republican, to co-write a letter in support of the BAM that will be co-signed by other local state representatives on both sides of the political aisle.

SWFBUD also successfully prompted the local Metropolitan Planning Organization Board to approve a feasibility study for the crossings of one of the three trails.

SWFBUD began promoting the BAM Network idea at its annual Bicycle Bash festival in November.
