Light and Motion upgrades consumers' defective lights

MONTEREY, CA (BRAIN)—Light maker Light and Motion is offering consumers a product upgrade if they have one of its lights that have a firmware defect.

The company has found that some 2011 Urban model lights, manufactured between August and December this year, have a firmware bug that may cause them to shut off prematurely.

"We encourage every customer who may have experienced this issue with an Urban light to return it to Light and Motion at our cost. We will automatically upgrade you to the next most powerful light within the Urban product line, at no charge. For example, any customer with an Urban 180 will receive an Urban 300. Urban 300 customers will receive an Urban 500 and Urban 500 customers will have their light fixed and will receive a free Vis 180 taillight," the company said in a release this week.

The company is asking consumers with the lights to contact it at bikeservice@lightandmotion.com or call (831) 250-6286.

Smack Media to provide PR for Nuun and Company

SEATTLE, WA (BRAIN)—Electrolyte-tablet maker Nuun and Company has named Smack Media its public relations agency, effective this month.

The 8-year-old company sells its tablets through about 5,000 outlets, said company president and CEO Mason Reay.

"We selected Smack Media because of their strong reputation for bringing innovative brands in the sports, health and fitness space to the forefront of media in conjunction with driving successful product launches.”

Smack Media clients have included Clif Bar, Zoot, All3Sports and Grease Monkey Wipes.

According to Leisure Trends Group’s RetailTRAK, Nuun’s tabs were the best-selling sports drink in outdoor, running specialty and bike specialty stores in 2011.

Echelon publishes 2012 Gran Fondo dates and charity program

Echelon Gran Fondo will produce four events next year and will also work with a new program that will allow cyclists to do fundraising around any activity and for any preferred charity.

The Charity of Choice is an online platform that is also working with major marathon promoters, the USA Gran Fondo series, the Gran Fondo Canada series, the NY Gran Fondo and the Sea Otter Gran Fondo.

“There are some new and great fondo operators popping up and instead of putting competing events in their cities, we will send our fundraisers to them but still give all the rewards to our Charity of Choice program participants," said Echelon’s executive director, Hunter Ziesing.

Echelon tested Charity of Choice in two cities last year.

The 2012 Echelon events:

  • Napa, California. Saturday May 12
  • Hood River, Oregon. Saturday Sept. 22
  • Seattle, Washington (August date pending)
  • Palo Alto, California. Sunday, Sept. 16
