NORTHFIELD, VT (BRAIN) — Female mountain bikers are set to get their huck on Saturday, Oct. 15, as all-weather sock manufacturer Darn Tough Vermont presents the Women’s Freeride Festival at Highland Mountain Park.
The event is designed to take female cyclists of all disciplines and abilities and introduce them to mountain biking or help them improve their gravity skills. Participants are eligible for all-day lift tickets at half price—$19.
The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and events include cross-country and “Pump, Jump ’n Drop” clinics, guided runs on Highland’s trails with local women riders, and bike maintenance clinics. Participants are encouraged to RSVP to secure spots in the clinics of their choice.
The day wraps with an after-hours social with a band, barbecue, beer and raffle featuring prizes from event sponsor Darn Tough Vermont.
“I have witnessed an increase in female riders every year since the park opened,” said Mark Hayes, owner and general manager of Highland Mountain. “I want this growth to continue; in fact, I think it has huge potential to blow up. If women-specific events like the Freeride Festival help to bring more women into the sport, then we will be introducing many more.”
