NEW YORK (BRAIN) — A vintage Colnago road bike owned by Steve Tesich, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of "Breaking Away," is being auctioned.
Tesich, who died in 1996, owned two Colnagos, keeping one in Colorado and one in New York City, said his friend Bob Shaver. Shaver, who owned the Shaver Sport cycling apparel brand, is helping promote the auction for the Tesich family.
"The Tesich family has decided to keep the bike in Colorado and sell the NYC bike," Shaver told BRAIN. "The bike was ridden mostly in Central Park, NYC, and he may have ridden it as an extra in a 'Breaking Away' race scene. The bike was last ridden in the spring of 1996 in Central Park," he said.
The bike was built in the 1970s and is original, with the exception of upgraded headset, stem and aero brake levers added in early 1990.
