MORGAN HILL, Calif. (BRAIN) — Specialized Bicycles will join the Global Climate Strike this Friday by closing its website and global headquarters to support youth activists involved in ending the age of fossil fuels.
In a note to employees, Specialized founder Mike Sinyard said, "All teammates are encouraged to ride their bikes and participate in Global Climate Strike events taking place on September 20th. I’ll be riding to Morgan Hill City Hall to join students in our community and other demonstrators, let’s ride together."
From 9 p.m. PDT on Thursday, through 9 p.m. PDT on Friday, all links on the Specialized website will redirect to the comapny's homepage, which will host the company's Global Climate Strike message and encourage people to find an event in their community and get involved.
At least 900 Amazon employees at the company’s Seattle headquarters have pledged to walk out Friday. Companies including Patagonia, Burton, and Lush also plan to close their U.S. stores in support. The climate strike comes just ahead of a UN emergency climate summit.
