BOSTON (BRAIN) — PeopleForBikes is asking Massachusetts retailers and cyclists to help preserve e-bike access to dirt trails and roads managed by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation.
A proposed rule change would bar e-bikes from all natural surface trails (including singletrack), improved trails that are less than 8 feet wide, and dirt roads that are not open to vehicular traffic in properties managed by the DCR.
"A ban on eMTBs means that eMTB riders in Massachusetts will have few places to ride, which could negatively impact your business," the organization told retailers in an email sent Wednesday.
The group is asking Bay State retailers and others to submit comments to the DCR and provided a link to submit pre-written comments. The group also urged retailers and others to attend two upcoming public hearings.
The first hearing is Thursday at Holyoke Heritage State Park, 221 Appleton Street in Holyoke, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The second hearing is Tuesday, July 2, at Community Rowing, Harry Parker Boathouse, in Brighton, from 7:00 to 9 p.m. The boathouse is at 20 Nonantum Road.
