SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA (BRAIN) — Interbike's first electric bike media event will open next Wednesday in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, with about ten exhibitors and more than 20 journalists and more than 50 retailers registered.

Exhibiting sponsors include SRAM, Electra, Prodeco, Easy Motion USA, Pete’s Electric Bikes, Currie Technologies, Pedego, Solex and Serfas. Supporting sponsors include Bikes Belong, Bicycle Retailer & Industry News and the Light Electric Vehicle Association.

“We (as an industry) need to do what we can to put more people on bikes, and Interbike is proud to help put a spotlight on the electric bike category,” said Pat Hus, Interbike's managing director. "We’ve got a fantastic lineup of media that committed to attend, and more than 50 dealers — both local and out-of-state — preregistered for the dealer demo portion of the event. For a first year event, we’re pleased with where we are right now.”

Interbike said that the journalists registered come from two top-10 daily newspapers, and several consumer and trade magazines. The combined circulation of all media attending is more than 18 million.

Speaking at the event will be Bruno Maier, vice president of Bikes Belong, and Bill Moore, editor of EVWorld.com. Maier plans to discuss electric bikes and their benefits, and how we can get more people on bikes through advocacy and infrastructure. Moore will be the event keynote speaker, and will present the history and evolution of electric bikes, the different platforms being used today and opportunities for the category.
