After a one-year hiatus, Girlz Gone Riding’s annual three-day weekend of shred is returning July 27-28. Club members from GGR’s eight chapters will meet in Big Bear to ride Snow Summit and Snow Valley Saturday and Sunday. Friday’s event will be at Skypark at Santa’s Village in nearby Skyforest. There’s a style option for every rider, with multiple enduro, downhill and cross-country rides led by GGR volunteers. Cross-country riders will have the option of riding the popular Maple Hills trails in Big Bear on Sunday as well.
There is no registration fee for the event for members, who get discounts on park admissions. Limited to only 100 participants, registration for the women’s weekend will fill up in a matter of matter of hours.
"I couldn't be more excited to bring this event back to one of my favorite places to ride, Big Bear. This event not only fosters a strong women’s biking community but also creates lifelong friendships, supporting our mission to get more women riding and ensuring they have a great experience every time,” says GGR Director Wendy Engelberg. Engelberg emphasizes that she seeks to create a supportive atmosphere of fun and adventure with the event, where women can challenge themselves, no matter what their skill level. Scheduled runs range in difficulty from beginner to black-diamond.
GGR Girlz take their riding seriously, but the social aspect is important too, with a festive taco dinner planned for Saturday night at Bear Mountain Resort. "we'll also have a guest speaker, awards, fun stories, and plenty of laughs. This community event brings together women from all backgrounds to celebrate and discuss mountain biking."
One of the largest women’s mountain-biking club in the country and entirely volunteer-run, Girlz Gone Riding was co-founded in 2010 by Wendy Engelberg with 85 Los Angeles-area members. The group now counts 4,200+ members and has 8 chapters: Big Bear, Central California, Inland Empire, Kern County, Los Angeles, Mojave, Orange County and San Diego.
