ATLANTA (BRAIN) — Wahoo Fitness acquired training platform The Sufferfest, continuing a trend of consolidation in the indoor cycling and training world.
The Sufferfest app appeals to cyclists, triathles and other endurance athletes and features a library of structured training and running workouts. Wahoo specializes in smart trainers and software catering to endurance athletes.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. There are no planned changes in The Sufferfest business offering or structure as a result of the acquisition.
"We are really pleased to bring together the Wahooligan and Sufferlandrian communities," said Wahoo founder Chip Hawkins. "We share a common passion for the performance of endurance athletes and our collective knowledge will provide additional benefits to athletes everywhere. Wahoo remains committed to the growth of the indoor training and fitness sectors and will continue to integrate and collaborate with as many leading software providers as possible."
In February, Garmin Ltd. took over smart-trainer company Tacx. In April, Sram acquired the PowerTap line of power meters from Saris, and in May, 4iiii Innovations Inc. absorbed STAC Performance, which manufacturers smart trainers.
Dedication to innovation by Wahoo and The Sufferfest has and will continue to benefit the consumer, said The Sufferfest founder David McQuillen.
"Our market-leading content and sports science — together with Wahoo's ground-breaking engineering — will allow us to develop fantastic new concepts and training solutions for our customers," he said. "The strong sense of identity that has made The Sufferfest what it is today will remain, and we will continue to work closely with our existing hardware partners to ensure seamless compatibility across all platforms."
Wahoo's line of products include the KICKR family of smart trainers and accessories, the ELEMNT family of bike computers, and the TICKR family of heart rate monitors.
The Sufferfest subscribers get unlimited access to a library of structured cycling, running and triathlon workouts designed by elite coaches, 100 training plans, Strength Training for Cyclists, 36 Yoga for Cyclists videos, and a 10-week Mental Toughness program. Cost is $99 a year or $12.99 a month.
